Misti Lee got her start in disc golf in Greenville, NC, when a roommate invited her out for a round at West Meadowbrook Park. She had never heard of the sport but was instantly hooked. Her forehand clicked faster than her backhand, but it was the bad shots that kept her coming back for more.

Now based in Wilmington, Misti plays primarily in the FA1 division and is a consistent presence in the local scene. She’s especially fond of her Fission Rhythm, a disc that pairs perfectly with her arm speed and holds a clean right-turning line. Her favorite course? Castle Hayne. Favorite event? The USDGC Doubles Championship at Winthrop—nothing beats that experience.

Though she dreams of playing pro, Misti’s biggest goal is to stay connected to the game and help others grow within it. Whether she’s supporting local shops like Throw Coast, showing up for weekly doubles, or coaching casually on the card, her commitment to building community is obvious. She’s also part of Port City Disc Chicks, a local group that brings women together through disc golf.

“I do wish more women would compete. I like winning, but I like a challenge more. The mental side of disc golf is hard to grow when there’s nothing at stake.”
Misti isn’t afraid to shake things up. Recently, she entered an MA3 division event, took the win over a field of seven men, and shot her first 900-rated round. Her advice to new players? Don’t lock into one brand too early. Try everything. Find what fits your throw.

Misti is 37 and currently earning her degree in Healthcare Management. She started her medical career as a medic in the Air Force, then became a certified Medical Assistant, and now holds a leadership position in healthcare. She’s passionate about helping people and solving problems.

She’s engaged to her partner, Misty (yes, same name!), and together they’re raising two fast-growing step-sons. Life is full—between work, school, family, and disc golf—but Misti keeps making time for the game she loves.
