Meet Brooks McGill: Throw Coast Disc Golf Pro Team Member

PDGA#: 197479 |
Current Rating: 982 (as of May 13, 2025)

Brooks McGill grew up in the piney woods of Bladen County, North Carolina, where competition came naturally in a household with three brothers and a sister. With a frisbee in hand and a backyard big enough to roam, it wasn’t long before Brooks found disc golf — a sport that didn’t need a team, just passion, precision, and a few discs.
His first introduction came from his grandfather, who kept a box of discs (then just “frisbees”) for the kids to toss around. It wasn’t until years later that Brooks realized they were meant for the course, and from the first round at Ballou Park in Danville, VA, in 2008, the hook was set.

Today, Brooks is a rising competitor on the professional circuit. After stepping away from collegiate soccer, he turned his full athletic focus to disc golf, driven by the challenge and community he found in weekend tournaments. In 2025, Brooks joined the Prodigy Tournament Team, building on his momentum from the Street Team in 2023. He now represents both Prodigy and Throw Coast Disc Golf as a shop pro and team ambassador.

2025 Season Goals:
Brooks is focused on growth, both on and off the course. He’s setting the stage for a full-time touring schedule, aiming to break into the 1000+ rating club, gain more exposure, and build the experience needed to hit the road year-round. Every trip teaches him something new: how to adjust to the climate, adapt his game, and stay grounded through the chaos of travel.

Life on the Road:
Balancing multiple jobs and hustling to cover every travel and tournament expense, Brooks knows the grind of chasing the tour dream. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. From Texas heat to Portland rain, each course is a lesson, and every round adds to his toolkit as a player and competitor.

Bag Breakdown:
Brooks throws all Prodigy, with a setup that reflects his need for control, consistency, and versatility:

  • Putter: P Model S – reliable and consistent
  • Midrange: Distortion & MX1 – perfectly paired for shot shaping
  • Utility Mid: Stryder – dependable in the midrange slot
  • Fairway Driver: Feedback – trusted across all conditions
  • Distance Driver: D2 – his go-to for maximum power and distance

What Drives Brooks:
Brooks is most inspired by the belief that he can always be better. Whether it’s proving to himself that he belongs on the tour or sharing a card with players who elevate the game, he’s fueled by self-improvement and the joy of learning. His favorite pro, Kevin Jones, exemplifies the spirit Brooks brings to every round — high energy, high skill, and a commitment to lifting others up.

Looking Ahead:
Brooks believes the future of disc golf lies in youth. His vision is to see the sport integrated into school systems like other major sports — creating early access, equity, and long-term growth. But to get there, he knows the pro scene needs better financial backing and broader sponsorship support so that players can sustainably chase their dreams.

Advice to New Players:
“Throw putters. Start slow. Ask for help.” It’s simple, and it works. For those looking to make the leap to pro, Brooks is honest: it takes commitment, sacrifice, and the willingness to grind daily, but if you love the sport, every step will be worth it.
